Erin Morgan Gore, adjunct professor at NYU's Robert F. Wagner Graduate School of Public Service and advisor to the sharing economy startup Weleet.co, writes how the sharing economy is creating new business models and forcing traditional for-profit businesses to adapt or fall behind. According to Gore, the same will hold true for the social sector.
Gore discusses the sharing economy's bottom triple bottom line (financial, environmental, and social), which aligns well with the social sector. But, Gore sees that the sector has yet to tap into the full potential of the sharing economy.
She points out using the sharing economy to operate and grow more efficiently; leveraging the sharing economy to better reach beneficiaries; and preparing beneficiaries for the new economy.
Gore also advises what to watch out for where the social sector must be aware of what assets its clients have to share and the need of policies to serve the underserved.
