"The rapid pace of innovation in artificial intelligence, biotechnology, and more is opening new doors for progress in global health."

That's the takeaway from the International Center for Journalists, which on Tuesday announced the 11 journalists and academics who have been selected to serve as the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation's new Health Innovation Journalism Fellows.

The goal of the fellowship is "to drive high-quality coverage of global health innovation," per the ICFJ's website.

The 11 fellows hail from nine countries, including Brazil, Germany, South Africa, and the US.

They'll report for global media outlets on a wide variety of topics, ranging from neurotechnology to drone technology to telemedicine to health disinformation, per the ICFJ.

"The rapid pace of innovation in artificial intelligence, biotechnology, and more is opening new doors for progress in global healthan exciting but complex and ever-changing landscape for journalists to navigate," the ICFJ's executive director says in a statement.

"In supporting this coverage, the program also aims to reinvigorate interest in health reporting in the post-pandemic era."
